No Linky? Absence Alert!

I am going to be away for several days, and then fairly busy for the next coupla weeks. I will be posting as I have computer access and time, but to be honest the blog will be pretty low on the priority list during that time. Consider it a bonus if you hear from me. 8-)

In the meantime, I encourage you to visit Slaw to see what my fellow contributors over there are up to.

I will be attending the upcoming KM World and Intranets 2005, and anticipating some good blogging from there, so do check back around November 14th.

Keep on surfin!

Cheers,
Connie

I was just looking at the Wikipedia entry on Flyposting. It seems to me this is a lot like postering, considered a method of free speech up in these parts. Does anyone know much about postering?

O'Reilly: What Is Web 2.0

I think I got to this page about Web 2.0 somehow from surfing from Steve Matthew's linkblog VLLB Links:

What Is Web 2.0 by Tim O'Reilly -- Defining just what Web 2.0 means (the term was first coined at a conference brainstorming session between O'Reilly and MediaLive International, which also spawned the Web 2.0 Conference), still engenders much disagreement. Some decry it as a meaningless marketing buzzword, while others have accepted it as the new conventional wisdom. Tim O'Reilly attempts to clarify just what we meant by Web 2.0, digging into what it means to view the Web as a platform and which applications fall squarely under its purview, and which do not.

Convenient blog-bite provided by the O'Reilly website itself. Great idea!

Science Library Pad: ILI2005

Richard Akerman is blogging the Internet Librarian International on his blog: Science Library Pad: ILI2005.

I like how he has created a sub-blog for the conference (a feature of Typepad).

He's included lots of notes from the sessions; I would love to see him fill the notes in a little more so they are cohesive to those of us not there.

Since I personally am interesting in the blogging of conferences, it's good to keep an eye on what this blogger is doing!

Evidence Based Librarianship

Evidence Based Librarianship

I saw that the Canadian Library Association has a SIG on EBL and am trying to figure out what exactly this is. From what I learned in my short bit of searching, it has developed out of health science or medical librarianship, but is being applied in other areas now. It is a framework for decision making by librarians, but other than this the definition used everywhere doesn't really help me:

What is EBL?

"Evidence-based librarianship (EBL) is an approach to information science that promotes the collection, interpretation, and integration of valid, important and applicable user-reported, librarian-observed, and research-derived evidence. The best-available evidence moderated by user needs and preferences, is applied to improve the quality of professional judgements."

Austria, Israel, and Italy are also represented in the collection.
