Negotation Skills for Librarians

My colleague Yasmin was asking if I knew of any materials on negotiation skills. Here are a few things I came up with:

We covered it at NE2007 -- the audio is on this page-- http://www.law-lib.utoronto.ca/NE2007/Proceedings.html it is program F1 "Negotiating Contracts: Tips, Tricks and Tools". I haven't listened to it (yet!), but I heard it was good.

AALL had a program in 2008 "Practical Negotiation for Law Librarians"
http://www.aallnet.org/chapter/llops/committees/profdev/welton.ppt (PowerPoint)

AALL's CRIV (their equivalent to CALL's VLC) has a webpage "Checklist for the Negotiation of Internet Subscriptions"
http://www.aallnet.org/committee/criv/resources/tools/negotiate.htm

If you know of any others, please share!

Cheers,
Connie

Stem Legal Update

My friend and colleague Steve Matthews of Stem Legal is a busy guy! Here are some of his recent announcements:
I like to keep a close eye on what Steve is doing because he is in many ways a role model to my own little enterprise, and when he can he pulls me in to help with the odd project. It is challenging to keep up with him!

HubSpot's Blog: Insightful Social Media Marketing

I am adding HubSpot's blog to my "must-read" list. Some great blog posts, fun original videos, and funny cartoons that they are letting us use. Cool. See the sample here.

MediaFuturist: 10 quick ways to to reinvent Print Media (newspapers, magazines)

Gerd Leonhard gives us the great, succinct blog post 10 quick ways to reinvent Print Media (newspapers, magazines). Here's the quick summary--you'll have to visit his blog post to get the full explanation:

  1. Decentralize your digital assets.
  2. Participate rather than be participated.
  3. Micro-chunk. Fragment and re-aggregate.
  4. Mobilize....totally!
  5. Integrate the bloggers, the people formerly known as consumers, the professional-amateurs and UGC.
  6. Engage. Engage again. And then engage some more.
  7. Filter. Curate. Contextualize. Inter-connect.
  8. Personalize and customize.
  9. Connect me to 'strangers like me'.
  10. Dive into Freemium models.
Some great lessons for all publishers, not just the news industry.

New Content from Connie Crosby

I thought this might be a good place to start gathering some of my recent content from around the web. Here's the latest!--

The Prolific Andrea Vascellari

Over on my Crosby Group Connection blog, I include a video from Andrea Vascellari. He is my prolific web friend over in Finland. I wanted to be sure to record some of his key links:

andreavascellari.com - his main website and blog
iTive.net - his company (he is the CEO)
VMC - his media channel over at Blip.tv

We are hoping he will be joining us in February for Podcamp Toronto (his name is on the registration!).

MegaWatt - New BC Renewable Energy Blog

From Steve Matthews at the Vancouver Law Librarian blog:

Top marks go to the lawyers at Clark Wilson LLP's Energy Group on the new name for their BC renewable energy blog... MegaWatt!

I love the name of this new blog! What impresses me is, as Steve points out, the firm allows its associates to be entrepreneurial and promote themselves. Entering the blogosphere is a great way to demonstrate expertise and get one's ideas known. No better way to raise a profile.

Law Librarian Podcast - Margie Maes is Next Week's Guest

Law library podcast The Law Librarian is set to continue recording next Friday, August 8th at 3 pm CST. The show is hosted by Richard Leiter and Brian Striman.

Today's guest is Margie Maes (some readers may know her as Margie Axtmann), Executive Director of the Legal Information Preservation Alliance, a committee of AALL. Margie is also an active CALL member; I first met her on a CALL Vendor Liaison Committee panel a number of years ago when she was serving on AALL's equivalent committee, CRIV.

Somehow I missed the recording of Episode 2 - Jim Milles was the guest. It looks like The Law Librarian is gearing up for regular broadcast, with shows scheduled the next few Fridays in August.

If you miss the live broadcast, it will be available for listening from the website afterward. I don't see it in iTunes--if someone finds it there, please let us know.

Date correction: I had the date wrong. Note it is actually next Friday, August 8th. Corrected above.
